According to a report by WeatherBrains on SnowBrains, a late-season weather pattern is set to bring a final refresh of snow to the Alberta Rockies. While much of the interior of British Columbia is transitioning into warmer, spring-like conditions, the Banff and Lake Louise corridor remains the primary focus for skiers seeking fresh turns through Saturday, April 25.
The storm is expected to arrive in two distinct pulses. The first wave, starting Wednesday afternoon, will bring the bulk of the precipitation. Early in the storm, skiers should expect dense, wetter snow due to higher temperatures. However, as the system progresses overnight into Thursday, temperatures are forecast to plummet between -6 and -10 C, which will significantly improve snow quality and consistency.
A second, colder pulse is expected to hit from Friday into Saturday. During this period, models indicate that snow levels will drop toward the valley floors, with temperatures settling between -6 and -12 C. While this pulse will be less intense than the first, it will contribute to a lighter, higher-quality snow density, ideal for late-season enthusiasts.
Wind conditions remain a point of uncertainty. While most models suggest manageable ridge-top gusts, there is some potential for stronger wind bursts. Skiers should anticipate intermittent upper-mountain exposure rather than sustained, problematic wind events. Looking ahead to the following week, the forecast indicates a return to drier, quieter conditions, with only minor flurries expected between Sunday and Thursday.
