Following a period of unseasonably warm weather that saw temperatures climb into the 80s across parts of Pennsylvania and the 70s throughout the Northeast, the 2026 ski season is entering its final chapter. According to reporting by SnowBrains, while many mountains have already ceased operations, a select group of resorts in the East continues to welcome skiers and snowboarders.

The current landscape for spring skiing is highly localized. In the Mid-Atlantic, Camelback Mountain stands as the final option for enthusiasts. Moving into the Northeast, five resorts remain operational, while Eastern Canada maintains two active locations. As the season wanes, mountain operations are increasingly moving toward spring-specific schedules, with many resorts transitioning to weekend-only access.

Forecast and Conditions

The outlook for the upcoming week offers a slight reprieve from the recent heat. Forecasters expect lower temperatures, with overnight lows potentially dipping into the 20s in certain regions. This cooling trend could provide a narrow opportunity for resorts to utilize snowmaking systems. However, daytime highs are still expected to reach the 60s in areas like the Poconos, Vermont, and Western New Hampshire. Persistent rain is also in the forecast for the week, which may impact snow quality.

Resort Status Overview

As of late April, the following resorts have confirmed their status or intent to remain open:

  • Vermont: Sugarbush is open daily through April 26, with additional dates on May 2-3. Stowe concludes its season on April 25. Jay Peak is operating daily through the weekend of May 9, with the possibility of extending. Killington remains the season anchor, targeting a May 25 closing date.
  • Maine: Sugarloaf Mountain is scheduled to operate through April 26.
  • New Hampshire: Black Mountain is currently listed as TBD, with a potential target of Memorial Day, May 25.
  • Quebec: Le Valinouet and Parc du Mont-Comi (weekends only) are slated to close on April 26.
  • New Jersey: Big Snow continues to provide year-round indoor skiing.

Because spring conditions are volatile, resort operations are subject to change on short notice. It is highly recommended that visitors check official resort websites or call ahead before planning a trip. For those still looking to extend their season, the window of opportunity is narrowing rapidly.
